Lexington Employee Assistance Plan (LEAP) Campaign Kick Off
Since its inception in 2004, LEAP contributions have continued to grow from the 2004/2005 totals of $65,439 to 2008/2009 totals of $121,261. A total of 130 families have received help during the 2008/2009 school year. These funds are used exclusively to benefit the employees and students of Lexington County School District One. LEAP offers two area of help:
Employee Crisis Fund – offers financial and/or in kind services to Lexington School District One Employees (not to include substitutes) during a serious illness or event.
We Care Fund – provides funds to enhance the learning experience of students in need of medical, dental or optometric needs that prevent the student from learning and include emergency funding for basic student needs.
The 2009/2010 LEAP Campaign will have its kick-off on July 28th beginning at nine o’clock in the Lexington District One Auditorium. A group of dedicated representatives (two representatives at each site in Lexington District One) will come together for a day of planning and instruction. We anticipate that this years campaign will be even bigger than prior years. Our district strives to create a healthy learning environment for both students and staff and helping those that are experiencing a difficult crisis has become one of the Educational Foundation’s priority. This years campaign theme is “Looking To LEAP.” Each year awards are offered to schools with the highest number of employees making contributions (i.e. elementary, middle, high, support staff which includes maintenance/district employees). The enrollment period for LEAP runs for a two week period coinciding with the beginning of the school year. This year’s campaign will run from August 12th through August 28th.
We are very proud to announce the completion of the writing of Lexington School District One’s history book. The final draft has been sent to the printers and it should be available for sale in early November. Titled Looking Toward the Future Through a Window to the Past, it is an informative, entertaining, and often fascinating look at our district through the years. The book will chronicle “The struggles of its past, express pride in its present accomplishments and provide a glimpse into its “Future aspirations”.
The book took many hours to compose and we want to thank all of those who contributed work in the form of documents, photographs, and personal accounts during interviews. We can truly be proud of our accomplishments as a School District who takes pride in the kind of instruction that has been offered to the children of Lexington county and will continue to make education a priority. It is exciting to see where we have been and look forward to the vision of the future of our young people.
