Limited School Choice for 2009–2010 Lexington County School District One will offer some limited school choice opportunities for next year’s kindergarten through eighth-grade students who live in Lexington One. Limited school choice allows students the opportunity to attend schools outside of their regular attendance area. Lexington One’s policy on school choice, Policy JFB, allows for limited school choice with board approval based on schools having enough space for new students. The district will offer 20 slots at Carolina Springs Middle, 10 slots at Forts Pond Elementary, 10 slots at Gilbert Elementary, 10 slots at Gilbert Middle, 10 slots at Gilbert Primary, 10 slots at Lexington Intermediate, 10 slots at New Providence Elementary, 10 slots at Oak Grove Elementary, 10 slots at Pelion Elementary, 10 slots at Pelion Middle, 20 slots at Red Bank Elementary, 10 slots at Saxe Gotha Elementary, 10 slots at White Knoll Elementary and 20 slots at White Knoll Middle for the 2009–2010 school year. In order to register your child for one of these school choice openings, you must be a legal resident of Lexington County School District One and be able to furnish proof of residency. If you would like to register your child, you must complete the enclosed form and return it before 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, to Mr. Joe Bedenbaugh, Assistant Superintendent, Administration, District Office, Lexington One, P.O. Box 1869, Lexington, SC 29071-1869. If the district receives more applications than it has available slots for at any one school, we will hold a lottery drawing for the affected school on Monday, April 27, 2009, at 3 p.m. in the School Administration Conference Room of the District Office located at 100 Tarrar Springs Road in Lexington. Parents do not have to be present at the drawing. Read the letter going home with kindergarten through seventh-graders.
Kindergarten and first-grade registration Lexington County School District One elementary schools have started registering children for 4-year-old kindergarten, 5-year-old kindergarten and first grade. Please contact your elementary school in your attendance area if you have questions. For details on what to bring with you when registering your child and other information on the process, please read the news release.
Weather makeup day May 25 Lexington County School District One will use Monday, May 25, to make up the Monday, March 2, snow day closing. By law, we must schedule three severe weather makeup days on our calendar. The May 25 date appears on the district’s academic calendar as the second severe weather makeup day. If the district does not need one of these severe weather makeup days, that day becomes a holiday. If we need more than three makeup days, the District Calendar Committee will reconvene and make recommendations for further makeup days to the Superintendent.
