Celebration of Excellence in education

Celebration of Excellence Logo

Each year in February we celebrate the top 10% academically of the graduating seniors in Lexington County School District One.

Our 2017 event will be held on Tuesday, February 28th at the Brookland Banquet and Conference Center. This event is by Invitation Only and official invitations will be mailed to qualifying students in January.

We welcome sponsors of this event and if you are interested in sponsorship opportunities, please contact Julie Anderson Washburn at 803.821-1008 or via email. It’s only through the generosity of many that we can continue to offer this very special event to the top students in our graduating classes.

2016 Celebration
At the 2016 event, 162 students representing the top 10% of their graduating class in Lexington School District One were honored at the Brookland Banquet and Conference Center in Columbia on February 23, 2016.

John Farley, Chief Meterologist for ABC Columbia, served as the Master of Ceremony for the evening.

Lexington High School was the host school for the evening. Melissa Rawl, Principal of Lexington High School introduced Dr. Karen Woodward, Superintendent (retired), who presented a virtual tour created by LHS faculty, staff, and students. After the completion of the virtual video tour, Mrs. Rawl introduced Lou Kennedy, a Lexington High School graduate and CEO of Nephron Pharmaceuticals, to speak about how Lexington One prepared her to achieve many successes throughout her life. It was a very enjoyable evening for the students and their guests.

A portion of the evening was dedicated to recognizing these students and inducting them into the Old English Society. Membership in this society is determined strictly by a student’s cumulative academic achievements throughout their high school years. Each student is awarded a lapel pin with the Society’s inscription and also featured the student’s own high school logo in the center.

River Bluff High School will host the next Celebration of Excellence in Education on Tuesday, February 28 at 6:00 pm at the Brookland Banquet & Conference Center. More information will be sent out in December.

This event would not be possible without the assistance of sponsorships from local businesses. Contact the Educational Foundation staff if you are interested in sponsoring the 2017 celebration!
