Information on Our Search for a New Superintendent


Wednesday, June 17, 2015 Dr. Karen C. Woodward, superintendent of Lexington County School District One, announces her plans to retire.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2015, in a special called board meeting, the board agreed to contract with Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc.
Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc. is assisting in the district’s search for Dr. Karen Woodward’s successor.

On Monday and Tuesday, July 20–21, 2015, members of the search firm, Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc., conduct face-to-face meetings with board members, community leaders and businessmen/women, support staff, principals, student leaders, district administrators, teacher leaders, parent leaders from PTAs/PTOs, SICs, the Parent Ambassadors group, and others as they gather information from the various communities and begin the formal search.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2015, members of the search firm, Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc., begin to analyze the data accumulated during the focus groups and develop a detailed job description.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2015, the final job description is developed by Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc. and the district’s Board of Trustees after reviewing the information gathered during the focus groups.
Coleman Lew & Associates, Inc. posts the job description and begins advertising the opening.

On Friday, December 11, 2015, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees holds a Special Called Board Meeting at 5:30 p.m. to talk about the superintendent search. Due to extensive renovations/repairs taking place at the District Office, they meet in the Boardroom of the Greater Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center located at 311 West Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.

On Saturday, December 12, 2015, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees holds a Special Called Board Meeting at 7:30 a.m. to talk about the superintendent search. Due to extensive renovations/repairs taking place at the District Office, they meet in the Boardroom of the Greater Lexington Chamber and Visitors Center located at 311 West Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072.

On Tuesday, December 29, 2015, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees holds a Special Called Board Meeting at 4 p.m. Even though extensive renovations/repairs are ongoing at the District Office, the board met in the Boardroom of the District Office located at 100 Tarrar Springs Road, Lexington, SC 29072.

On Friday, January 8, 2016, after interviewing eight candidates chosen from a field of 50 inquiries from a number of states, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees announces three finalists: Gregory D. Little, Ed.D., Alonzo “Lonnie” Ray Luce, Ph.D. and Jeffrey S. Salters, MBA.

The week of January 11–15, 2016, the three finalists spend some time in the district meeting the district’s principals and senior leadership team, and in further meetings with the board. As part of that process, individual board members had numerous opportunities to meet formally and informally with the finalists.

On Thursday, January 28, 2016, at a Special Called Board Meeting, Lexington County School
District One’s Board of Trustees selected Gregory D. Little, Ed.D. as the district’s new

On Monday, May 2, 2016, Dr. Little assumes the mantle of superintendent.

Will the search for a new Lexington One superintendent extend beyond South Carolina?
The search will be a national search. The board understands that the communities served by the district want someone they can relate to and someone that will maintain the caring culture, level of academic excellence and community partnerships for which the district is known.

What will be Dr. Woodward’s last day?
Dr. Woodward has agreed to work with the board to make this a smooth transition and will stay as long as necessary.
