Parents or guardians of children who are 4 years old on or before September 1, 2017 may apply to have their child screened for the half-day 4-year-old kindergarten program.
Spring screenings take place Tuesday through Friday, May 23–26, and Tuesday, May 30, 2017. (Monday, May 29, is the Memorial Day holiday.)
To participate in this screening, parents/guardians must apply for the program at the elementary or primary school your child would normally attend before May 26, 2017.
Locations of 4-Year-Old Kindergarten Classes
The district’s 4-Year-Old Kindergarten Program offers half-day classes that are housed in identified elementary schools. If a child is accepted into the 4K program, but classes are not offered at the school in his/her attendance area, that child will attend a 4K class at another 4K program school.
For example, a 4-year-old student zoned to attend school at Pleasant Hill Elementary and accepted into the program will attend 4K at Lake Murray Elementary.
You must first apply for the 4K program at the elementary or primary school in your attendance zone, and then you will receive information about screening from the school where the class meets. If you are unsure of the school for which you are zoned, just click on the “SCHOOLS” tab at the top of the page, click on “School Locator”at the top of the page and enter your address.
The table below lists each of the district’s elementary and primary schools and lists the location for each school’s 4K class. If your zoned school does not offer 4K classes, use the chart below to locate the school where the program is offered.

If you are unable to provide any of the documents listed above, please contact the school or the district’s Office of Student Services at 803-821-1029 to discuss alternative documentation that may be acceptable.
4K classes are half-day sessions. The district offers one session in the morning from 7:40 to 10:20 a.m. and another session from 11:40 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. There may be a slight variation in the beginning and ending session times at the individual schools. Parents are encouraged to check with the school to verify these times.
The district provides bus transportation to and from school for all qualifying 4K students residing in the district’s attendance zone.
Parents/guardians will be notified of the date and time when their child will be screened for the 4K program.
Within one week of the screening, the district will notify you by telephone or by mail of the results of the screening and let you know if your child was accepted into the 4K program.
If you have questions regarding the 4K program, please contact the elementary or primary school in your area, or call Karyn Ward or Johnnie Boatwright with the Lexington District One’s Instructional Services Office at 803-821-1065.
