GED General Information and Registration
The GED is a high school-equivalency test. Our GED classes prepare the student to
take and pass the test. (Please call (803) 821-2950 for further enrollment information.)
The test itself is given by the state of South Carolina. The tests are
normally conducted on Saturday mornings. To ensure coverage of the entire state, the test will be given on Fridays in certain locations. For a list of locations where the
examination will be given, click here.
NOTE: Columbia, Florence, Greenville, Rock Hill, and Summerville have been designated independent GED testing centers and control their own schedules. The dates listed below are the ones currently planned (which include testing on days other than Saturday and Friday, and also some evening testing [usually in two sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays]). Some centers have not published their schedules for the whole year. Check each center's website to obtain the most current information. Click here for Columbia, or call (803) 343-2935. Click here for Florence, or call (843) 664-8152 x44. Click here for Greenville, or call (864) 355-3433. Click here for Rock Hill, or call (803) 981-1378. Click here for Summerville, or call (843) 873-7372.
Students begin the program by taking a pretest to determine areas of
weakness. Class work is then individualized to meet the student’s needs. A
minimum of 12 hours study/instruction is required, but the student may stay in
the program as long as he/she wishes.
GED classes are open to anyone 17 years old or older who is not currently enrolled in public school.
Fees are waived for unemployed clients of the Lexington DEW. Register with them before signing up for classes. If you are employed, there is a one-time fee of $50.
