Career Transition

  1. Goal

    The goal of the transition program is to assist Adult Education students in developing a transition plan to identify the "next step" options after earning high school credentials. The Transition Program provides this assistance through individual planning sessions, presentations, and information dissemination regarding employment, higher education, and armed forces opportunities.

  2. Assistance Specifics

    1. Career Assessment

      During an individual session, students identify career goals, explore career options, and examine training, educational options, and/or requirements based on the results of the career assessment results and student goals.

    2. College Application / Financial Aid Process

      Students receive individual assistance obtaining and completing college application and financial aid forms.

    3. Armed Forces Careers

      Career opportunities in the military are presented to students in individual and group sessions. These presentations are conducted by military personnel from each service branch. Military contact information is also provided for interested students.

    4. Job Search (Part-Time or Full-Time)

      Various job listings, contacts, resources, and fairs are provided through postings, computer searches, and referrals. Training sessions are also available covering such workplace skills as resume preparation, interview techniques, and job applications.

    5. Small and Large Group Presentations / Sessions

      Sessions include information regarding career/college options, youth and adult support programs/resources, and job shadowing opportunities. Members of the business community serve as guest and motivational speakers.

    6. Referral Services

      Students are referred to various community services, resources, agencies, and programs based on individual student goals.

    7. Individual Counseling Sessions

      Student-specific topics and skills are addressed on an as-needed basis.

    8. WorkKeys Readiness Program

      Students are monitored to determine whether they can earn WorkKeys certification or whether they need additional training / assistance.
