Special Services
Our school guidance counselors, Carol Crout and Amber McMillan, are available daily for our students, staff and families. Mrs. Crout serves the first grade and kindergarten classes. Mrs. McMillan serves the second grade, multi-age and a few kindergarten classes. The guidance team visits classrooms monthly as well as meets with students individually and in small groups.
Speech services are available for any student with a current IEP (Individualized Education Plan) or any student who needs an evaluation and qualifies for speech. The speech therapists provide therapy in many areas such as articulation therapy, language therapy, fluency therapy, and voice therapy. Most students who receive speech services come to speech therapy twice a week for thirty minutes. The students are grouped according to their grade level and area of therapy. There are four speech therapists at GPS. Kelli Floyd, Ashley Keisler and Laura Spears are at the school full-time. They serve "speech only" students as well as students in the Pre-School Self-Contained Class and the 5K Inclusion Class. Lindsay Brown serves children in our Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities Class as well as 3- and 4-year-old speech students who are not enrolled at GPS. If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school at 892-1200 and ask to speak with one of the speech therapists. Kayla Arsi is part of our Intervention Team. Amy Derrick is the secretary for our Special Services Team.
