During the June 4, 2019 Board Meeting of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees, the board approved the promotion of Jessica B. Buzhardt to the position of academic assistance, early childhood and Title I coordinator.
A district literacy specialist since 2014, Buzhardt provides support for school administrative teams and their school-based literacy coaches, establishes model classrooms in collaboration with English language arts and math coordinators, facilitates learning lab experiences, and supports implementation of common ELA curriculum, instruction and assessment.
Buzhardt began her career as a teacher in 2003 at Windsor Elementary School in Columbia. She then directed a 21st Century Grant-funded after-school program for primary students in Lexington County School District Three. Joining Lexington District One in 2005, Buzhardt taught at Lake Murray and Rocky Creek elementary schools. During her time at RCES, her fellow educators voted her Teacher of the Year for the 2011–2012 school year.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of South Carolina-Aiken and Master of Arts in technology and instruction from Grand Canyon University, Buzhardt earned Read to Succeed literacy teacher and literacy coach endorsements.
Buzhardt is a member of South Carolina Leaders of Literacy and National Association for the Education of Young Children.
