Lexington County School District One offers some limited school choice opportunities during the 2019–2020 school year. This limited school choice option gives Lexington District One students the opportunity to attend schools outside of their regular attendance area.
The district’s policy on school choice, Policy JFB, allows for limited school choice if schools have space for additional students.
The district is unable to offer
To register your child for a school choice opening, you must be a legal resident of Lexington County School District One and able to furnish proof of residency. To apply for a limited school choice seat for your child, please complete the attached form and return it before 4 P.M. on Friday, April 5, 2019, to Mr. Clark Cooper, Student Services Director, LCSDO Central Services Office, P.O. Box 1869, Lexington, SC 29071-1869. If you prefer, you may email the completed form by 4 P.M., Friday, April 5, 2019, to his assistant, Mrs. Beverly Byrd, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If the district receives more applications than available seats at any one choice school, district administrators will hold a lottery drawing for the slots at the affected school(s) on Friday, April 12, 2019, at 3 P.M. in the School Administration Conference Room of the Central Services Office located at 100 Tarrar Springs Road in Lexington. Although parents are welcome to attend, they do not need to be present at the drawing for their students to be qualified for the lottery.
IMPORTANT: Due to the current shortage of school buses statewide, the district is not able to provide bus transportation to and from school for children attending schools outside of their regular attendance area. Parents/legal guardians MUST provide transportation for these children.
Remember, too, that your child will receive the same curriculum as other students at the choice school. For example, if your child currently attends a school that teaches French as its world language and your child goes to a choice school that offers a different world language, your child must take the world language offered at the new school.
