of an LMS Student

Before Leaving Home
  • Grab your bookbag, homework and supplies
  • Put on your ID badge

ID Policy
  • You will receive an ID badge and a                                                      lanyard at the beginning of the year
  • You should wear your ID badge at                            all times while at school
  • You will need your ID badge to purchase meals and check out materials from the media center
  • If you misplace your ID badge or leave it at home, you must get a temporary badge from the media center or your first period teacher
  • If you lose, deface or destroy your badge, you will need to purchase a new ID badge

Arrive at School
  • Go to the Courtyard area between      the Cafeteria and the Gym
  • If you want to eat breakfast                  at school you should go               directly to the Cafeteria
  • You should not come into                   the buildings before 8:08 a.m.        without a pass from a teacher
  • The gym, media center and cafeteria are open on poor weather days
  • Talk to your friends before the first day and decide on a specific place to meet

The First Bell
  • The first bell rings at 8:08 a.m.
  • Most days you will report directly to your            1st  period class
  • The first few days of school you will go               to your homeroom class before being            dismissed to go to 1st  period
  • Teachers and staff will be                                    in the courtyard to help                                  direct students on the                                        first day of school

School Begins
  • The tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m.
  • You should be in your classroom          by 8:15 a.m.
  • If you arrive at school after                 8:15 a.m. a parent should                   sign you in at the main office
  • Pledge of Allegiance and              morning announcements                  begin at 8:15 a.m. on the                              PA system

Class Schedule
  • Academic classes last 70 minutes
    • Language Arts
    • Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies
  • Exploratory classes last 50 minutes
    • Two Exploratory classes each day
    • Most Exploratory classes are for nine weeks
    • Some Exploratory classes are all year – like Band and Orchestra
    • Foreign Language classes for 6th graders are 18 weeks
  • You have 4 minutes between classes

  • 1st period Exploratory – 8:15 – 9:05
  • 2nd period Academic – 9:09 – 10:19
  • 3rd period Exploratory – 10:23 – 11:13
  • 4th period Academic – 11:17 – 12:27
  • Lunch period – 12:31 – 1:01
  • 6th period Academic – 1:05 – 2:15
  • 7th period Academic – 2:19 – 3:30

Your Agenda
  • You will receive an agenda at the beginning of the year
  • Use your agenda to keep track of assignments
  • Your agenda will also serve as your hall pass whenever you leave the classroom

Time for Lunch
  • Your choices –
    • Two hot bar lines
    • Combo line
    • Salad bar
  • Wear your ID so they can scan the barcode
  • Leave your bookbag in the classroom
  • Talk to your friends before the first day of school and decide on a place to meet
  • After you eat, you can enjoy time outside in the Courtyard or on the basketball courts

School Ends
  • Afternoon announcements begin at 3:27 p.m. and school is dismissed at 3:30 p.m.
  • Plan ahead and know how you are getting home
  • If you are a bus rider, know your bus number
  • If you are a car rider, decide ahead of time where your ride will be picking you up (Two locations: Dreher Street, front loop)
  • Due to limited supervision,                                                  it is expected that all students                                       leave campus, either by bus                                                or by car, unless staying for                                              an activity or study session

Homework
  • Write your homework in your agenda
  • Make sure you have all the books and materials you need before leaving school
  • Check the teacher web sites (Edline)

Locks and Lockers
  • Buy a combination lock from LMS (NO other locks may be used) and practice opening it
  • Write the locker number, combination and lock instructions down in case you need them
  • Keep your locker information in a safe place

Finding Your Classes
  • Pick up your schedule in July (a card will be mailed to you with an exact date) from 2:00-6:00 p.m. in the cafeteria
  • After you get your schedule      walk around the campus
    • Locate your classes
    • Locate the cafeteria, library, gym, main office and     guidance office
  • Make extra copies of your  schedule
  • If you cannot find your class,       ask a teacher or another       student for help

6th Grade Teams
  • 2 - 4 Teachers per team
  • Teachers share the same group of students
  • Most academic classes are located in the same building
  • Two levels – Accelerated and College Prep

CAT Card
  • CAT card is a behavior plan we use at LMS to reward students who demonstrate excellent behavior.
  • Students who keep their CAT cards for designated periods of time receive special awards.
  • Students who receive no “punches” for certain periods of time are eligible for prizes such as MP3 players.
  • Your teacher will give you more details in August!
