in the Life
of an LMS Student

Before Leaving Home
  • Grab your bookbag, homework, and supplies.
  • Put on your ID badge.

ID Policy
  • You will receive an ID badge and a                                                      lanyard at the beginning of the year.
  • You will wear your ID badge at all times while at school.
  • You will need your ID badge to purchase meals and check out materials from the media center.
  • If you misplace your ID badge or leave it at home, you must get a temporary badge from the media center or your first period teacher.
  • If you lose, deface, or destroy your badge, you will need to purchase a new ID badge.

Dress Code Policy
  • Clothing should not be distracting, revealing,             suggestive, or otherwise disruptive (such as                                 bare midriffs, halter/tank tops, spaghetti straps,                                          or see-through tops).
  • Shorts, skirts, skorts, or dresses should not be                  overly tight or shorter than fingertip or mid-thigh length-- No holes above the longest fingertip in jeans.
  • Pants should be worn at the natural waistline.
  • Clothing and accessories should not display inappropriate references (such as vulgarities, obscenities, gangs, alcohol, tobacco     or illegal substances).
  • Under most circumstances, hats, head stockings, or kerchiefs should not be worn in the buildings
  • Accessories and clothing should not pose a safety threat   (such as heavy chains, fish hooks, multi-finger rings, studded bracelets    or collars, nose/lip to ear chains, etc.).

Arrive at School
  • Go to the Courtyard area between      the Cafeteria and the Gym.
  • If you want to eat breakfast                  at school, you should go               directly to the Cafeteria.
  • You should not come into                   the buildings before 8:08 a.m.        without a pass from a teacher.
  • The gym, media center, and cafeteria are open on poor weather days.
  • Talk to your friends before the first day and decide on a specific place to meet.

The First Bell
  • The first bell rings at 8:08 a.m.
  • Most days you will report directly to your            1st  period class.
  • The first few days of school you will go               to your homeroom class before being            dismissed to go to 1st  period
  • Teachers and staff will be                                    in the courtyard to help                                  direct students on the                                        first day of school.

School Begins
  • The tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m.
  • You should be in your classroom          by 8:15 a.m.
  • If you arrive at school after                 8:15 a.m., a parent must                   sign you in at the main office.
  • Pledge of Allegiance and              morning announcements                  begin at 8:15 a.m. on the                              PA system.

Class Schedule
  • Academic classes last 70 minutes.
    • Language Arts
    • Math
    • Science
    • Social Studies
  • Exploratory classes last 50 minutes.
    • You will have two Exploratory classes each day.
    • Most Exploratory classes are for nine weeks.
    • Some Exploratory classes are all year – like Band, Orchestra, and Chorus.
  • You have 4 minutes between classes.

Your Agenda
  • You will receive an agenda at the beginning of the year.
  • Use your agenda to keep track of assignments.
  • Your agenda will also serve as your hall pass whenever you leave the classroom.

Time for Lunch
  • Your choices –
    • Two hot bar lines
    • Combo line
    • Salad bar
  • Wear your ID so they can scan the barcode.
  • Leave your bookbag in the designated area.
  • Talk to your friends before the first day of school and decide on a place to meet.
  • After you eat, you can enjoy time outside in the Courtyard or on the basketball courts.

School Ends
  • Afternoon announcements begin at 3:27 p.m., and school is dismissed at 3:30 p.m.
  • Plan ahead and know how you are getting home.
  • If you are a bus rider, know your bus number.
  • If you are a car rider, decide ahead of time where your ride will be picking you up (two locations: Dreher Street, front loop).
  • Due to limited supervision,                                                  it is expected that all students                                       leave campus, either by bus                                                or by car, unless staying for                                              an activity or study session.

Homework
  • Write your homework in your agenda.
  • Make sure you have all the books and materials you need before leaving school.
  • Check Lex-Connect – Grades, assignments, upcoming projects, and tests are uploaded daily.

Locks and Lockers
  • Buy a school combination lock and practice opening it.
  • In case you need them, write down the locker number, combination, and lock instructions.
  •  Keep your locker information in a safe place.

Finding Your Classes
  • Schedule pickup will be held in August (mailing will be sent home with dates).
  • After you get your schedule, walk around the campus.
    • Locate your classes.
    • Locate the cafeteria, library, gym, main office, and     guidance office.
  • (If you cannot find your     class, ask a teacher or another student for help.)

  • There are four 4-teacher teams and one 2-teacher team.
  • Teachers share the same group of students.
  • All academic/core
  • classes are located
  • in the same building.

7th Grade Humanities
  • Offers students integrated classes in history and literature.
  • Classes have the option of meeting in two-hour blocks with an essential question guiding student investigation of the curriculum or in standard class segments.
