
CURRICULUM OVERVIEW
Students are provided opportunities to use computers as instructional and application tools in a lab setting and in the media center. In the media center, students use computers to access the card catalog, use information technologies such as CD-ROM, Internet, and Accelerated Reader. The Accelerated Reader is a computer-based program in which students select books from a list of quality literature, read the books, and take computer tests to measure comprehension.
First Grade
In the lab, first grade students are introduced to keyboarding and computer operations and are exposed to a variety of programs used for skill practice and problem solving related to subject area content. The first half of the year focuses on math and reading preparation and the second half of the year focuses on reading and math applications. In addition, students use programs that stimulate creativity while making the process of learning both fun and rewarding.
Second Grade
In the lab, second grade students practice keyboarding skills, learn additional computer operation functions, and are exposed to a variety of programs used for skill practice and problem-solving related to subject area content. In addition, students use programs that build written communication skills and stimulate creativity.
Third Grade
In the lab, third grade students practice keyboarding skills, learn additional computer operation functions, and are exposed to a variety of programs used for skill practice and problem-solving related to subject area content. In addition, students use programs that build written communication skills and stimulate creativity.
Fourth Grade
In the lab, fourth grade students practice keyboarding skills, learn additional computer operation functions, and are exposed to a variety of programs used for skill practice and problem-solving related to subject area content. In addition, students use programs that build written communication skills and stimulate creativity .
