In 1996 a group of "us" alumni got together to talk old-times. The nostalgia made us realize how much Pelion High School meant and means to us. The school was good to us, good for us, and we looked for ways to repay it. Though that's really not possible -- some of us graduated in the 30's -- we came up with the idea of supporting current students with scholarships. We still love Pelion High School and we want to continue to be a part of the school's "life."
Each year, since 1996, we have awarded a scholarship in honor of Miss Ruth Gunter, a longtime and devoted Math teacher at Pelion High School. Miss Ruth was a kindly teacher, and some of us hoped our contributions would buy her forgiveness for the muschief we perpetuated in her classroom. Miss Ruth died in December 2000 and until her death she was grateful for the scholarship memorial.
