The PMS Climate Cats Robotics Team have been gearing up for the 2008-2009 Climate Connection season with the FLL LEGO Robotics Leauge. One way the team has been preparing is by solving various robotics related missions with a “climate connections” theme. Initially, each member built, designed, and tested a robot. Then, a final team robot was selected by the team to be judged for technical innovation and design during competitions. It is a monster. Hearing its cage capture carbon dioxide and bury it (geologic sequestration), seeing its delivery mechanism position the test leeves with precision, and this bot executing many of the other missions is really neat. Mr. Leneschmidt commented, “The team has really taken ownership by working hard together, exemplifying gracious professionalism, and having fun learning.” Team members also have been developing a climate web page that will serve as an electronic portfolio of this season, and provide our community and the world with a portal for useful climate-related information. The team has also designed their own team display board, team tee, and plaques together. On Saturday, January 24th, our team will face other middle school teams in the region at the Aiken Technical College. The Climate Cats are Josh Cromer, Sara Gray, Timothy Deffendall, Jesse McBride, Tori Thomason, Zhane Moses, Hezikyah Olenja, & Jeremy Williams. Sean McKinley also serves as technical assistant for the 2008-2009 Climate Cats Robotics Team.
