“Connie and Flash”

By: Mrs. Lupo’s ELA classes

There once were two tiny, growing plants.

At first, they were both smaller than ants.

Subjects of sixth grade science experiment,

Connie, the control plant, was given bright lights.

Flash, the variable plant, was given dark nights.

Now Connie is the bigger of the two so she wears the pants!

Party at PMS

By: Samantha in Mrs. Lupo’s first period classes

When my school is empty and there is no one in the halls, something strange is happening!  Break out the chips and dip!  Open the soda pop!  Because our plants know how to party!

When we return to Ms. Shealy’s room each day, our plants are always in a different place than when we left them.  There are small trails of dirt leading from their cups and back again.  Little crumbs of food can be seen if you look carefully.  Check behind the trashcan for the dirty napkins. Their leaves are droopy and their little stems nod with sleep.  These plants are partying while we are out of the building.

They turn on Ms. Shealy’s computer, turn up the volume and type in the website for music .  Soon, loud music is coming from Ms. Shealy’s room.  The church often calls to complain to the police about the noise, but when the police arrive……  There is no one there and the lights are all off.  The police shake their heads and leave the room.  When the door shuts behind them, the plants slip out from behind the desks where they have been hiding.  They party till the wee hours of the night.

When Ms. Shealy arrives at work each morning, the plants are innocently resting in their containers under the grow light.  Little does Ms. Shealy know what these “innocent” little plants have been up to while she was gone.   I guess the old adage “when the cat’s away, the mice will play.” is alive and well at PMS.
