1. Do not allow students to go unsupervised to the rest room unless it is a necessity. Students
must learn to gauge their rest room use time. Please use proper judgment to determine if
a student must be excused.
2. If it is necessary for an individual student to be excused, the student must have a rest room
pass.
3. The teacher will determine class rest room break times. During the class break,
teachers are to be in the hallway between the rest rooms supervising the procedure. A final
check is to be made after the class finishes to ensure that the rest room is clean and not
vandalized.
4. No more than 5 students should be in the rest room at a given time.

Hall Procedures
Each classroom teacher should assign a weekly line leader. The line leader stops at all stop signs (allowing the rest of the class to “catch up”). The second person in line holds the first door, if needed. The third person in line holds the second door. When the class has passed through a door, the door holder joins the line at the end.
Students always walk single file and to the right; arms and hands to their sides.
Students are not to talk while walking in any line.
Teachers should walk along side near the middle of the class in order to monitor behavior.
The same rules apply to any individual student walking in the hall even when not part of a larger group.
TOP
Breakfast Procedures
Students will stand along the media center hallway until admitted to the cafeteria. There should be no talking as they place book bags, instruments, projects, and folded jackets single file along the designated tables. (There should be no throwing or “piling up” of materials nor anything left that is not touching the wall.)
A designated area will be assigned for car riders and individual buses.
All students will walk in a straight quiet line at all times. The designated walking area is the light-colored tile.
After receiving his or her tray and paying, each student will walk toward the center of the cafeteria. Upon reaching the center they will turn left or right depending on the next available table (a teacher or student helper will indicate which direction.) They will go (in a straight line) until they reach the end of their designated table. They will sit in the next empty space at that table.
Students will sit three to a bench and will fill in the entire side of one row of tables before beginning the next row. Exceptions may be made if an older student is helping out or if a family wishes to sit together.
Students will not be allowed to go back into the kitchen for napkins, milk, utensils, etc. (The teacher on duty will get items if they deem it crucial to the meal.) Once seated, a student should get out of their seat only to put his tray away and exit the cafeteria.
Exiting Breakfast
All students should clean around their eating space before leaving the table. They should pick up napkin, food on table, or food on the floor.
Regardless of where a student is seated, they should form a straight quiet line in front of the window. They should use the same traffic pattern (straight lines vertical or horizontal) to get to the line in front of the window.
Students should stop at the designated line and wait for the person in front of them to dispose of their tray before going up to the window. After passing in their tray, they should turn right toward the stage. They should travel quietly all the way around the cafeteria to exit into the hall to retrieve their book bag. Do not re-enter the cafeteria or walk between the tables.
After picking up book bags/instruments, students should join the students on their hall to wait quietly for entry into the classroom.
Walk in a straight quiet line.

Lunch Procedures
Teachers should assign students to be in charge of washing tables and sweeping under the table after their class has completed their meal. These students should be allowed to put their tray up first, so that they will be ready to clean when the last student leaves their table. One student should be assigned to wipe the table and the other should sweep. Students wiping the table should use one disposable glove for handling the dish cloth.
Students purchasing “special items” should be at the back of the line. Purchases should be made on the first trip through. Students should not return to the serving line for utensils, napkins, etc. unless deemed essential by the teacher.
Students will stand quietly and remain in their places while in the lunch line. Students will keep hands to themselves at all times. Students not purchasing a school lunch should proceed to the short line parallel to the kitchen doors and re-enter the line as the teacher directs.
Students will walk down the center part of the lunchroom before turning right or left toward their row of tables.
Students will walk single file and to the right until they reach their assigned table.
Students will eat quietly and use good manners such as remain seated, both feet under the table, napkin in lap, food on trays, talk softly after 5 minutes, and follow cafeteria rules.
Students should close their milk carton and place it on top of any papers or napkins before leaving the table (to keep papers from falling on the floor as they walk).
There should be no talking as students are dismissed.
Students are to remain seated until dismissed.
Teachers will stand at the end of the table and signal for all students to rise. Students will stand behind their seat before picking up their tray. Upon the teacher’s signal, students will pick up trays and clean around their area (including the floor) before moving toward the empty tray window.
Empty trays always yield to full trays, if traffic patterns intersect.
Students will empty trays according to specified procedures:
· Remain straight and quiet (holding tray with two hands)
· Stop at shaded area to allow the person in front to finish putting away tray.
· Push tray gently as far as possible (do not wait for the tray to be emptied)
· Place utensils in tray provided
· After depositing tray in the window turn right toward stage
· Proceed to designated area and wait silently for the other students to finish putting away their trays.
From this point, the teacher will escort the class to their next destination.
All traffic should proceed in straight lines and exit through the doors near the music room.
