Key Information/Communication Technologies Initiatives

  • Edline – Online Parent/School Communication System

Currently in the pilot phase and scheduled to be implemented district wide in the fall, Edline is an excellent product which will open new and expanded avenues of communication between school and home. While teachers have had a means of publishing WebPages with information for their students and parents for quite some time, Edline simplifies the web page process and in addition, teachers will be able to share attendance, grades, and other information relating to each of their students in a protected, secure environment. Another outstanding feature in Edline is that of combined calendars. This means that a student and his/her parents will be able to view a personalized calendar containing the information from all of the classes, groups, and activities to which the student belongs.
Time after time, research has shown that student achievement increases with improved communication between school and home. Edline promises to be an effective tool to promote just that!

  • Document Imaging/Cold Storage

This initiative, undertaken in conjunction with Palmetto Microfilm (http://www.pmsimage.com/index.html) , will allow important documents and files to be stored in a safe, secure and compact manner. As the school district grows, storage of information becomes a space as well as a security issue. This initiative is designed to alleviate those problems.

  • GIS Zoning and Planning/Transportation Software

This software, created and supplied by US Computing, is at the center of another initiative whose purpose is to provide the district with accurate, up-to-date information of the population distribution throughout the county. Once again, the rapid growth of the district makes the acquisition of accurate data of paramount importance. Using this data, the district will be able to make wise decisions regarding rezoning as new schools are added as well as provide information for effective transportation planning.

  • SUNS – Statewide Student Unique Numbering System

The State Department of Education has undertaken an initiative to provide each student in the public school system a unique identification number to accurately track them as they progress. The system will assist with the accuracy of data collected as required by the No Child Left Behind law.

  • Software used to support the Special Education Program

This initiative is part of a statewide implementation plan. Since special education requires the generation of detailed IEPs – Individualized Education Plans – and other detailed record keeping, a software solution to expedite these processes is imperative.

  • New building technology design and implementation

The District is in the process of designing and building 5 new schools as well as conducting renovations at all other schools. As part of this process the Information/Communication Technologies department is actively involved in providing engineering and design specifications for data cabling, networks, telephony and budget development. Network/Telephony installation is conducted by the department as buildings become available.
