Instructional
Technology is responsible for overseeing and facilitating
the use of educational technology in the schools. Ultimately,
the end-result of efforts is to foster student achievement
through the implementation of technology in collaborative,
student-centered classroom environments.

- Oversees
and supports school-based Technology Integration Specialists
(TIS)
- Oversees
implementation of the Teacher Technology Competencies Assessment
(TTCA) and the performance-based assessments used to determine
if teachers have developed technology competencies consistent
district and state technology standards which are closely
aligned with ISTE standards.
- Plans
and conducts training for a variety of district employees,
ranging from district administrators to school staff members.
- Supports
classroom teachers in their use of technology.
- Develops
software standards for instructional software.
- Researches
new hardware, software, and educational trends and makes
recommendations on their acquisition to the DMT.
- Plans,
implements and supports new instructional technology initiatives
in the district.
- Works
with curriculum and content area staff to determine instructional
technology needs.
- Maintains
and regularly updates student, teacher, administrative,
and classified staff technology standards.
- Actively
seeks and applies for grants to help fund the technology
needs of the district.
- Plans,
implements, and supports the in-district Teacher Technology
Grant program, last year awarding over $30,000 to support
teacher-developed technology initiatives.
- Prepares
and makes presentations at both state and national technology
conferences in order to share the district’s vision
of technology in education.
- Creates
and maintains the instructional technology portion of the
district websites.
The Instructional
Technology Department currently has a Director, one District
Technology Trainer, and one Administrative Assistant. They
support 15 school-based Technology Integration Specialists
in 21 district schools.
The Director is a member of the District Multidisciplinary Team (DMT), which
is charged with making and overseeing technology plans for the district. The
DMT is comprised of the District Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents
of Instruction and Accountability/Information Technologies, and the Directors
of Information/Communication Technologies, Instructional Technology, and Accountability.
The Director of Instructional Technology also works with other district and
school administrators as they develop their own technology plans. |
