Teacher Technology Competency Assessment (TTCA)

In an effort to provide a quality educational experience for students using technology, the South Carolina State Legislature passed a law, Proviso 1.29. The law states that all certified personnel must demonstrate technology competencies.

In accordance with state laws, Lexington County School District One implemented its Teacher Technology Proficiency Competencies. By adopting and implementing Proviso 1.29, Lexington County School District One administrators and teachers are moving forward in integrating meaningful technology in support of the classroom curriculum.

Essential Level I ** Expected Level II ** Expanded Level III

 

Expanded Level III Technology Competency

  • Certified staff must complete the technology self-assessment annually.
  • Evidence of at least 3 contact hours of technology training completed annually
    (school-based, district-based, or other)
    AND
  • 1. Conduct 15 one-hour district-approved technology workshops.
    OR
  • 2. Present technology sessions at 3 conferences.
    OR
  • 3. Teach 1 three-hour district-approved technology course.

Expected Level II Technology Competency

  • Certified staff must complete the technology self-assessment annually.
  • Evidence of at least 3 contact hours of technology training completed annually
    (school-based, district-based, or other)
    AND
  • Successfully complete an approved Expected Level II course and two observations.
    OR
  • Develop and submit a technology ePortfolio.

Essential Level I Technology Competency

  • All certified employees must successfully complete the Teacher Technology Competency Assessment
  • New employees have one year to master the TTCA
  • All certified employees must complete the technology self-assessment annually.
  • Evidence of at least 3 contact hours of technology training completed annually (school-based, district-based, or other)

• All tests will begin at 3:45. If it is not possible to arrive by 3:45, you may begin when you arrive. The test will not start earlier than 3:45.
• You may bring any help files that you have. All other materials will be provided.

TTCA Web Page Criteria
Class web pages are developed by teachers in Lexington District One using Lex<->Connect. At least one class web page should meet the following criteria. This will satisfy the web page requirement for the TTCA.

Please note that you are expected to complete this work on your own, and you will sign an affidavit to that effect when you come to the assessment session.

Web Page
The web page requirement will be met by at least one of your Lex<->Connect class pages which must meet these criteria:

• Attractive class page which includes some colored text and an appropriate picture for the class. This graphic may be digital or a piece of clip art…The important thing is that it looks nice and the picture is illustrative of the class in some way.
• A minimum of 2 means of contact (For ex. telephone, room number, e-mail, etc.) included somewhere, preferably on the main page, but could be in a subsidiary document.
• The teacher’s name and the class subject somewhere on the main class page.
• A News item listed under News
• Item on the Class Calendar related to the class. Assignments would be most common example.
• Items under Contents to include:

• NCLB information
• Class information – syllabus for example
• Grading policy

• Under Links, at least three links to outside resources that are related to the subject matter the class is currently studying. For example, if a biology class is currently focused on the study of cells, and appropriate link would be to Cells Alive (http://www.cellsalive.com/).

Essential Level

Basic Operations and Concepts

1.1 Operate computer system and peripherals

a. Use correct startup/shut down procedures according to computer

b. Operate peripherals (i.e., printer, scanner, CD-Rom)

c. Trouble shoot

    1. Frozen screen / lock-up
    2. Delete print job  (Print Help)

1.2 Navigate Documents

a. Point, click, double-click, click and drag with mouse

b. Maximize and minimize using the Windows Operating system

c. Use pull-down and expanded pull-down menus

d. Select, open, and move an icon

e. Select, open, move, and close a window

g. Scroll up/down, left/right within a window

1.4 Manage Files

    1. Name a file
    2. Save a file using both the Save and Save As Commands
    3. Locate a file from any storage device (i.e., floppy disk, hard drive, network directory, CD-Rom) using Windows Explorer or My Computer
    4. Rename a file
    5. Copy/move file between hard disk, floppy disk, and network drive
    6. Save, open, place files inside subdirectories/folders
    7. Create and name/rename folders
