Question 7

Technology SurveyQuestion 7
Impact of Technology on Student Learning
Analysis:
Most teachers felt that all of the factors listed on the survey are important student benefits from the use of technology.  Increased student motivation and engagement was ranked as the most important benefit.  I have found this to be true in my own teaching experiences as well.  Motivating students is always one of the most important factors in raising student achievement.  Students must be engaged in order to learn. Because our students live in a digital world, we are most effective when we try to engage them in ways that connect to their own lives.  Technology inspires student participation like nothing else can.  Today when a fifth grade class came into the lab to work on their blogs, I heard one boy say, "I have been waiting for this all week!"

Instructional content also had a high ranking.  Every minute in the day counts, so we must be sure that every technology activity directly relates to curriculum standards.

Action Plan:
We will continue to develop and share lesson plans that are engaging and meaningful.  I will continue to encourage teachers to take students to the lab so students can have hands-on one-to-one computing experiences.  We are fortunate to have 3 labs, and there should not be any empty spaces on the sign-up calendars.
