School Facts

  • White Knoll High School is a comprehensive, 4-year high school, grades 9-12, accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and the South Carolina Department of Education.   White Knoll High School (WKHS) is located in the Red Bank community of Lexington County, South Carolina.  WKHS opened in August of 2000 with an enrollment of about 1300 students.

    In 2008, WKHS was named a Red Carpet School and a year later was given the Blue Ribbon Lighthouse School Award. WKHS’s Department of Guidance and Achievement is a Recognized ASCA Model Program.  WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Gold Award for General Performance in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.  In 2010 WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Silver Closing the Achievement Gap Award and in 2011 and 2012, WKHS was awarded the Palmetto Gold Closing the Achievement Gap Award.  In 2013, WKHS was named a South Carolina Green Step School and received an award for taking steps to be environmentally responsible.  In 2016, WKHS became a National Athletic Trainers Association Safe Sports School Awardee.  In 2018, WKHS became a National Unified Champion School and the Center of Public Health and Advanced Medical Studies was named a Distinguished School by the Project Lead the Way organization.

    An instructional plan is offered at WKHS that gives each student the opportunity to pursue individual goals. WKHS offers a comprehensive program of studies which includes course offerings in language arts, foreign languages (German, French, Latin, Spanish), mathematics, science, social studies, drama, choral and instrumental music, NJROTC, physical education, art, computer science, general vocational, natural resources, occupational and technical education.  In addition, courses are offered for a student-produced yearbook and a weekly television show.

    WKHS has active DECA and HOSA organizations that compete on the state, national and international levels.  Every year students win state, national and international awards.  WKHS Drafting students are also extremely successful in both Technical Drafting and Architectural Drafting at the SkillsUSA State Competitions.

    WKHS has an excellent Fine Arts Department and its students compete at state levels for awards in Band, Orchestra, Chorus, Guitar, Theatre and Art.  The WKHS Marching Pride band was the 2010 and 2011 AAAA State Marching Band Champions.  The school was moved to an AAAAA status and the band was the 2018 Lower State Champion and State Runner-up.

    WKHS also excels athletically. In football, baseball and basketball, the Timberwolves are very competitive on the state AAAAA level and have many dedicated fans.
