I look forward to getting to know each of my students as we embark on an adventure of learning together this year.

It’s hard to believe the 2023-24 school year will be my sixth year teaching fifth grade at Midway Elementary.  MES has been a huge part of my career both before and after graduating from USC in 2018.  I attended college about a decade later than your typical college student and while doing so, I worked at Midway as a substitute employee and later as a member of the custodial staff.  While student teaching, I had the opportunity to learn from the teachers and students here at Midway.  I still learn from the teachers and students here and that is what makes our school’s learning community so strong.

This past school year, I completed coursework to earn my endorsement for teaching gifted & talented students and this summer, I attended training to become CPR-certified.  When I am not teaching and learning at Midway, I enjoy spending time with my family & friends, kayaking on the Saluda River, walking my dog, Letty, and maintaining a respectful distance from my cat, Eleanor Roosevelt.

I am so excited about teaching 5th grade in math and reading at Midway for another year! I'm happy to be able to team with Mr. Dutka, who will be teaching science, social studies, and writing. This will be my 19th year teaching. As a military family, we have moved around a lot. I have taught in Arizona, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Alaska, and even Italy.

I graduated from Arizona State University with my Bachelors degree and later earned my Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix.

My husband recently retired from the Air Force, which is what initially brought us to South Carolina. We have two children, Courtney and Kody. Courtney will be a junior attending the University of South Carolina, and Kody will be a senior at River Bluff High School. We round out our family with our two labs, Amy and Kenai. I love traveling, days on the lake, coffee, and books.
