Substitute Procedures
-
Minimum Criteria
Applicants must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and be 21 years of age or older.
SUBSTITUTE JOB POSTING PROCEDURES
Each month, job postings will be open for applications from the 1st to the 15th. Interviews will be conducted in the weeks following the close of the posting. To be considered for a substitute position, you must complete each step outlined in the substitute application process below.
SUBSTITUTE APPLICATION PROCESS
PLEASE GIVE THE ENTIRE PROCESS AT LEAST 3 WEEKS FROM CLOSE OF THE APPLICATION TO ENTERING A SCHOOL BUILDING TO START WORK. (For example, if I apply on March 8, I should plan for up to 3 weeks from March 15 to be in an active substitute status.)
-
Step 1: Apply Online
Complete and submit an online application between the 1st through the 15th of the month. Visit www.JoinLexington1.com and click to Apply.
-
Step 2: Follow Up with References
In order to move forward with your application, we must receive two favorable reference forms online with your application. These references must be professional references. We are unable to accept a reference from a friend or family member to move you forward in the process.
- What If I Don’t Have Prior Work Experience? If you do not have prior work experience you may send the forms to two of your former teachers, college professors or an organization where you frequently volunteer.
-
Step 3: Interview
Once your application has been reviewed and two favorable professional references have been received, we will send you an email invitation to participate in a virtual interview. Interviews are conducted with a member of our Human Resources team. If you have not been contacted by the 25th of the month of your application and you have confirmed* that you have completed step one above and have two completed references, please email lex1subs@lexington1.net.
*You can check the status of their references by logging into your Frontline account! To check your references, log back into your applicant profile and click on the reference section. Once there, you can view when each reference survey was sent and if/when it was completed. Remember, these should be professional references, not friends or relatives.
-
Background Checks
As is our practice with all employees and volunteers in the district, our next step will be to conduct thorough background checks to ensure the safety of our students. If something comes up on your background check that would prevent you from working in our district, we will reach out to notify you that we cannot continue with this process.
-
Onboarding and Training
If your application is approved, you will receive onboarding paperwork to complete as well as links to begin virtual substitute training, during which you will go over important information such as classroom/school procedures, emergency preparedness, and district policy.
Additional Information
-
-
At the end of each school year, all substitute accounts are deactivated. Substitutes must work an average of two days per month to be considered for the following school year. A report is run at the end of each school year to determine the total number of days worked by each substitute. If you do not work the required number of days, you will need to reapply by completing a new online application prior to working again.
-
An applicant MAY NOT work as a substitute teacher until approved by Human Resources.
-
Please understand that by completing and submitting an online application does not guarantee employment.
