• Lakeside Middle will open in August of 2022 for the 2022–23 school year. The finished 214,000-square-foot school is designed for an initial capacity of 1,200 students, with a core capacity of 1,500 students. The school is located at 455 Old Cherokee Road in Lexington on a 62-acre site.

Lakeside Middle will serve students currently zoned for Lexington Middle, in addition to students living within the newly proposed attendance lines.

The proposed attendance lines help alleviate overcrowding, efficiently use facilities, minimize the division of subdivisions, allow future student growth in permanent facilities, consider transportation patterns for safe and efficient student transportation, and utilize natural and major road boundaries where possible.

The new school will house the district’s middle-level French Immersion Program. LMS will open as an EL Education partner school.

The district will soon hold two public meetings to allow the public to hear a formal presentation of the proposed attendance lines, review maps and ask questions.

The meetings will begin at 6:00 PM with the formal presentation, then Lexington District One staff will stay until 7:30 PM to answer questions. The same information will be shared at both meetings.

Parents/guardians can come to either meeting and do not have to come to the one at their student’s school.

The public may also give feedback regarding the proposed attendance lines during citizen’s participation at the January and February board meetings.
