Career and Technical Education
Career and Technical Education prepares students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in a future career. CTE is designed for ALL students: those who will be employed in the workforce, those who enlist in the military, and/or those who will enroll in a college or technical school after graduation. Ideally, a student is best prepared for future careers when they challenge themselves academically and then apply those core academic concepts with CTE instruction, including problem solving, authentic learning, craftsmanship, and skills provided in a CTE lab and classroom.
CTE Opportunities
In Lexington One, students have the opportunity to participate in CTE classes at all 5 high schools, all 8 middle schools, and Lexington Technology Center. Lexington One CTE has strong business, industry, and community support for our programs. Our work-based learning opportunities are vital to the CTE experience. They include clinical rotations, school stores, internships, externships, co-ops, job shadowing, field studies, the Michelin Partners Program, and more. In addition, students have an opportunity to earn honors credit for upper level courses, and dual enrollment courses are available through USC-Sumter Engineering and Midlands Technical College (MTC) for Engineering, Health Science, and Business and Marketing. Students may also exempt MTC courses through articulation agreements with MTC in Welding and Building Construction.
Lexington One graduate, Braden Guliano, credits the Career and Technology teachers and classes at Lexington Technology Center with helping him work on solving real-world problems with manufacturing partners now as a student at the University of South Carolina.
