Elementary School Level

Elementary students build skills in reading, writing, math, science, social studies, world languages, health, PE and the arts. Teachers help them become curious, confident learners by connecting new ideas to what they already know.

Students have many ways to learn, practice and show what they know. Regular check-ins help teachers provide the support, added challenge and choices each child needs.

Families are key partners in learning. Classroom updates, online tools and family resources help parents and guardians stay connected and support learning at home.

Alongside building academic skills, elementary students begin working on Lexington One Graduate Profile skills. You can learn more about what that looks like in Kindergarten through second grade here. Third through fifth grade Graduate Profile skills are explained here.

They discover how they learn best, work with others to solve problems and keep trying when challenges arise. With support, students set goals, reflect on their progress and become more independent learners. Students also discover new interests and build confidence through enrichment programs.

Students use technology in ways that fit their age and stage of development. Lexington One’s Instructional Technology Belief Statements keep learning and relationships at the center. Digital tools are used with purpose to support strong teaching, hands-on learning and student growth.

In kindergarten through second grade, technology use supports hands-on learning. A majority of learning is screen-free.

In third through fifth grade, students use digital tools more often to build skills, creativity and independence, but still within clear limits and under teacher guidance.

Elementary students begin to connect classroom learning to the world around them. Field trips, guest speakers, projects, community partners and school events introduce students to careers and show how learning can make a difference.

Students discover their interests, recognize their strengths and imagine what they may want to do in the future. They begin to see how today’s learning can lead to college, a career, military service or another path.

By the end of fifth grade, students are ready for their next step: middle school.
