Dr. Bill Coon

Dr. Bill Coon serves as the founding principal of Meadow Glen Middle School in Lexington, SC.  MGMS is the first EL Education School in SC. Meadow Glen was named a National Mentor School and was also recognized as a Nationally Credentialed EL Education School in 2018.  Additionally, Meadow Glen was recently recognized as a Special Olympics National Unified Champion School, and named an ESPN Honor Roll School 2019-2020 school year. Dr. Coon was named the 2016 NASSP State Principal of the year and was a finalist for the 2019 Silverberg Award. Dr. Coon has also been recognized as the Tennebaum Award Winner in 2006.  Prior to opening MGMS, Dr. Coon was the founding principal of Pleasant Hill Middle School in Lexington, SC.   Both MGMS and PHMS have been recognized on numerous occasions as Palmetto Gold and Silver Schools for academic achievement and closing the achievement gap. PHMS was also recognized as a Red Carpet School and received the School Improvement Council Award winner for their work in the community and outstanding school culture.  Dr. Coon began his administrative career at Alice Drive Middle in Sumter, SC, where the school was recognized as a SC Exemplary Writing School and Red Carpet School.  Dr. Coon has served as past chair of the School Leadership Executive Institute, as a board member on the Center for Educator Recruitment, Retention, and Advancement as well as the Executive Committee of the SC Middle School Association.
