GMS supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation

GILBERT, S.C. — During September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Gilbert Middle School students

and staff raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and worked to bring awareness to childhood cancer, in

honor of a GMS teacher and her son.

GMS Teacher Melissa Juergens’ son, Mark Jr., was diagnosed with cancer two years ago and traveled a long

road fighting for his life. Today, Mark Jr. is healthy and thriving, and the Juergens family wanted to give back to

the Make-A-Wish Foundation, as they were recipients of a wish during Mark Jr.’s cancer journey.

Word quickly spread of the fundraiser in the Gilbert community, and the Gilbert Middle School student body

joined in the fundraiser. Together, the school raised almost $3,000 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
