Lexington District One promotes Nathan D. Dawson to Procurement Director

LEXINGTON, S.C. — On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees approved the promotion of Nathan D. Dawson to procurement director, effective July 1, 2022. Dawson currently serves as the district’s procurement coordinator and will replace Tracy Lucas, who retires at the end of June.

Dawson has more than 20 years of professional experience. He began his career as a barrister and solicitor with Blake Dawson Waldron in Perth, Australia, in 2002. In 2004, Dawson became a junior prosecutor with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for Western Australia. That same year, he relocated to England and began working as a lawyer with the Confiscation Unit of the Organised Crime Division for the United Kingdom Crown Prosecution Service.

In 2006, Dawson moved to the United States and worked as a paralegal with Willoughby & Hoefer, P.A. In 2011, he was hired by the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce as an administrative hearing officer. In 2017, he joined the Division of Procurement Services with the South Carolina State Fiscal Accountability Authority, Office of State Procurement. In his role as a procurement manager, Dawson served as a consultant to state agencies by assisting and providing guidelines with procurement strategy, policy development, purchasing methods, sources of supply, policies and procedures, negotiations and compliance with S.C. Consolidated Procurement Code. Dawson joined Lexington District One in March 2022 as the procurement coordinator.

Dawson graduated from Curtin University of Technology in Western Australia with a degree in commerce. He then received a Bachelor of Law with first-class honors from Murdoch University, also in Western Australia. He is a member of the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing, as well as the South Carolina Association of Governmental Purchasing Officials.
