September 7, 2021 : Lake Murray Elementary received national recognition as Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools®. Only 69 schools across the U.S. received this designation.

A Special Olympics Unified Champion School encompasses an inclusive school climate and exudes a sense of collaboration, engagement and respect for all members of the student body and staff. To receive national banner recognition, these schools demonstrated commitment to inclusion by meeting 10 national standards of excellence, which were developed by a national panel of leaders from Special Olympics and the education community.
