Lexington District One’s Debra L. Huggins announces retirement

Lexington County School District One Enterprise Information Technology Officer Debra L. Huggins announces her retirement, effective June 30, 2022. She has spent the past nine years in Lexington District One, supervising and coordinating the district’s information technology department through project management.

“Deb Huggins has been instrumental in the development of educational technology in Lexington District One,” said Superintendent Dr. Gregory Little. “During her time, she managed the construction of the district’s new data center and operations building as well as the implementation of 1:1 technology for all students. Because of her efforts, Lexington District One has embraced using new technology to make a difference in students’ futures.”

Huggins began her career in 1983, as a manufacturing systems project leader and business systems analyst for Lozier Corporation in Nebraska. In 1988, she moved to Atlanta to American Software, Inc., as the company’s senior consultant and client base product director. In 1995, Huggins moved to Lexington, S.C., to serve as the SAP project manager/manager business analyst for Pirelli Cables and

Systems. From 2000–2013, Huggins spent time as a senior project manager at ASEA Brown Boveri (ABB) in Raleigh, N.C.; BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and Advanced Automation Consulting in S.C.

As part of her position at Advanced Automation Consulting, Huggins worked with the South Carolina Department of Education to implement all technology-related requirements for the Education and Economic Development Act, including the implementation of the Individual Graduation Plan. In 2012, she worked with the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to select an electronic transcript solution for the state. In 2013, Huggins was hired as a consultant through AAC to manage the district’s IT department. She was hired full-time by the district in 2014 to serve as the enterprise information technology officer.

Huggins attended University of Nebraska at Omaha, where she majored in business. She also has Project Management Professional certification from the Project Management Institute. She is a member of the Dell Technologies K–12 advisory board; SCDE District Information Security/Privacy and Technology District Technology Advisory Group; South Carolina Association of School Administrators Technology Leaders’ Roundtable and the Project Management Institute–Midlands chapter.
