Gloria B. Jenkinson, principal of Lexington County School District One’s Beechwood Middle School, announces her retirement at the end of the 2022–23 school year, after 33 years in education. Jenkinson has served as principal of BMS since 2019, when the school opened.

Jenkinson stepped into the classroom at Ashland Middle School, in Ashland City Schools in Ohio, in 1990, where she served as a Spanish and English teacher. In 1993, she moved to Ashland High School to teach Spanish. During this time she also worked as an adult education adjunct professor at Ashland University. In 1998, Jenkinson moved to South Carolina, where she taught Spanish at Hammond Upper School in Columbia and at Ridge View High School in Richland School District Two.

In 2000, Jenkinson joined the Lexington District One family when she was hired at White Knoll Middle to teach Spanish. In 2004, she became a technology integration specialist with the district. In addition, she also worked as a graduate education adjunct professor with the College of Charleston from 2008–2012.

Jenkinson joined the team at Lexington Middle School when she was promoted to assistant administrator in 2012. She was promoted to assistant principal of LMS in 2014 and then to principal in 2016, where she served until 2019 when she was named the inaugural principal of Beechwood Middle School.

Jenkinson earned a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and English, with a minor in secondary education, from Kent State University in Ohio. She received a Master of Education in educational administration from Ashland University in Ohio. She holds certifications in secondary principal and secondary supervisor. She serves as a school leader mentor, co-chair of the All Means All committee and a student learning objective and ADEPT evaluator for the district. She is also a principal internship mentor for University of South Carolina.

She is a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society, the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Association of Middle Level Education.

She was named the Lexington District One Educational Office Professionals Administrator of the Year for the 2020–21 school year and served as Teacher of the Year of both White Knoll Middle and Lexington Middle schools.
