Dixon hired as principal of Gilbert High School

David Dixon will take the helm as the new principal of Gilbert High School, effective July 1, 2023. At the May 16 meeting, the Lexington One Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Dixon, who currently serves as the district’s human resources and title IX coordinator.

Dixon began his career in education as a teacher and coach in North Carolina. After being promoted to assistant principal, he served as principal at South Iredell High School in North Carolina from 2006 to 2010 and at Northumberland High School in Virginia from 2010 to 2013.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in history from the Virginia Military Institute and a Master of Secondary Education and a Master of Educational Leadership from West Virginia University. Dixon holds S.C. Leadership Professional certifications in elementary and secondary principal and S.C. Teaching Professional certifications in Middle Level Social Studies and Mathematics, and Social Studies.

Before moving to South Carolina and joining Lexington County School District One in 2021, Dixon served as assistant director for leadership development at the Center for Leadership and Ethics at the Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia. He also served as adviser to the Cadet Superintendent’s Advisory Board, and developed and implemented a variety of leadership education courses for faculty and staff including the VMI Core Competency Module program.

From 2014 through 2018, he served in the Hospital Education Program at the University of Virginia Children’s Hospital. While there, he supervised and administered the Hospital Education Program and coordinated goals and initiatives of the University of Virginia’s Hospital with the Virginia Department of Education, state-operated programs, and Charlottesville City School System.

Dixon’s involvement in professional organizations includes memberships in the S.C. Association of School Administrators, the American Association of School Personnel Administrators and the Association of Leadership Educators.
