Our History Meadow Glen Middle School opened its doors in August of 2012 as the first EL Education school in South Carolina. We are a start-up public school located in Lexington, SC. Our journey began as an idea generated from the senior leadership team in Lexington School District One. This idea was to open a nontraditional middle school that personalized each student's experience in a service-minded culture where all learners have opportunity and access to highly engaging instruction. After months of research and school visits, we discovered an approach that inspired the entire team, EL Education. Through our discussions with school communities at King Middle, Casco Bay, and Evergreen School, we were led back to the “Why” of education in which students do not need a title to be a leader, success is defined by more than a test score, and school communities can think globally and act locally. In addition, students should be empowered to articulate what they know, what they still need to know, and how they learn best in an environment where All means All. The EL Education mission statement spoke to the heart of what we wanted for the MGM community: “To create classrooms where teachers can fulfill their highest aspirations, and students achieve more than they think possible, becoming active contributors to building a better world.” |
"[The] meaning of CREW is creating relationships and "My 6th grader has taken his learning of the Habits Of Scholarship and applied it beyond the classroom and school. He is more open towards serving others, being a true leader on the baseball field, and applying integrity and tenacity at home as well as with his youth group at church. He completes tasks with only one direction and often just because he sees the need." |

Our Educational Philosophy
We know the value in thinking globally and acting locally. The students, teachers, and parents at MGM have created an amazing family atmosphere that is service-minded and caring. Students and teachers have participated in countless projects that have touched the lives of children in foster care, flood victims in our community, hurricane relief in Houston, Texas, and families in Africa. We are and always will be a work in progress. Our students and staff have embraced the growth mindset philosophy. Students and teachers continue to grow in producing high quality work through expeditions and case studies. |
