Board of Trustees approves Lakeside Middle School Zoning Plan

LEXINGTON, S.C. — At the February 15, 2022 meeting of the Lexington County School

District One Board of Trustees, the board approved a zoning plan for the new Lakeside Middle School, following the third reading of recommended attendance lines for the school.

Lakeside Middle will open in August 2022 for the 2022–23 school year. The finished 214,000-square-foot school is designed for an initial capacity of 1,200 students, with a core capacity of 1,500 students. The school is located at 455 Old Cherokee Road in Lexington on a 62-acre site.

Lakeside Middle will serve students currently zoned for Lexington Middle School, in addition to students living within the newly proposed attendance lines.

The attendance lines help alleviate overcrowding, efficiently use facilities, minimize the division of subdivisions, allow future student growth in permanent facilities, consider transportation patterns for safe and efficient student transportation, and utilize natural and major road boundaries where possible.

The attendance zone for Lakeside Middle alters the attendance lines of Meadow Glen Middle School. Some students who attend MGMS this year will attend Lakeside Middle next year.

Lexington District One offers rising eighth graders the opportunity to stay at their current school for their final year as long as their parent or guardian provides transportation.

The district will contact impacted families about this process, called “grandfathering,” soon to share more details.
