District administrators presented proposed attendance lines for the new South Lake Elementary

Proposed SLES attendance lines

Why this is important:
The proposal impacts the attendance lines of Saxe Gotha Elementary and Carolina Springs Elementary, meaning some children who attend these schools this year may be zoned to attend South Lake Elementary School starting in the 2024–25 school year.

How to learn more: The district will hold two public meetings where employees, families and community members can review the proposed attendance lines, hear about the grandfathering option for current fourth-graders, and ask questions of district representatives.

  • Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at Saxe Gotha Elementary Cafeteria

  • Monday, Dec. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at Carolina Springs Elementary Library

Grandfathering option explained:
If your student is going to be a fifth grader next year and the proposed attendance lines show your student will move to South Lake Elementary for the 2024–25 school year, your student will have the opportunity to stay at their current school.

Give input: Employees, families and community members have multiple opportunities to give input:

  • Speak with district representatives at the public meetings listed above.

  • Complete the online feedback form.

  • Speak during the public hearing on the attendance lines at the Tuesday, Dec. 14 board meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at the Pelion Performing Arts Center. Sign-up to speak at the public hearing opens at 5 p.m. and closes at 6 p.m. You must be present to sign up to speak.
