Lexington One’s 4K application/5K Enrollment

Lexington County School District One’s application process for 4-year-old kindergarten and enrollment for 5-year-old kindergarten for the 2024–25 school year opens on Monday, January 29, 2024, at 8 a.m.

4-Year-Old Program Information
If your student will be four years old on or before September 1, 2024, your student may be eligible for a four-year-old kindergarten program in Lexington One. The district offers 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) programs at all elementary schools across the district. Click here for more information and the 4K application.

For students to be eligible for the district's 4K program, they must:

  • Be four years of age on or before September 1, 2024;

  • Reside in the Lexington One attendance area; and

  • Meet the at-risk criteria eligibility for enrollment (at-risk is defined as “annual family income of 185 percent or less of the federal poverty guidelines as promulgated annually by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or Medicaid eligible”). Children also qualify in cases of a documented developmental delay, potential developmental delay (screening results), placement in a foster home, or a child who is homeless. Documentation of family or child “most at-risk” conditions must be verified and kept on file for review.

Since each program can only serve a limited number of students, we are not able to serve all children who apply. A list is created and acceptance is prioritized based on “most at-risk” factors.

Lexington One offers a caring learning environment for kindergartners that fosters academic excellence and success. Click here for more information and the enrollment link.

Families should enroll in the five-year-old kindergarten (5K) program if they are zoned for a Lexington One elementary school and their student is five years old on or before September 1, 2024.

Families can use the district’s 2024–25 School Zone Locator to find the elementary school for which their student is zoned. This locator is based on the recent rezoning and includes South Lake Elementary School, which will open in August 2024.
